Portrait - Head or Upper Torso
My brother's dog Bear playing in the snow, trying to get around on his three legs. If he jumped too far into the snow, we would have to pull him out, because he would get stuck. No extra settings were used. Cropped and the white balance was set to correct the "gray" snow color.
Portrait - Environmental
Mr. Hiller helping his student in his Digital Photography class on Tuesday, January 12, 2009. No extra settings were used, photo was cropped.
Action - Stopped
Fish swimming in a tank at a fish hatchery during Fall 2008.. There are hundreds of fish in each tank. They are growing until they are ready to be transported to a river for release. No extra settings were used.
Action - Blurred
A duck is trying to dry his wings at a duck pond, owned by a family friend in September, 2008. Doesn't seem to be helping though. No specific adjustments were made.
Action - Panning

A car is hurtling down the road, while we were stopped in October. Panning options were set, fast shutter and large aperture.
Landscape
Mountains near the Detroit Dam. Power lines run down to the river and across to provide power to nearby towns and houses in November, 2008. No specific adjustments were made.
Macro -
A macro shot of a camera holder strap on January 10, 2009. Now, the pattern in the threads can be seen clearly. Macro setting was on, no flash, and not zoomed in.
Alteration -

Eastern Washington celebrates Obama's win. Never mind, the Washington Monument was put in with flags and an Obama sign. This was a landscape of Eastern Washington in November, 2008. No extra settings were used.
Night Shot -
My sister, Tsedenya, walking back up the hill to continue sledding, when there was 18 inches of snow. Night shot mode was selected and zoomed on December 22, 2008.

Come up with a better Environmental portrait.
The picture should use rules of composition, have an appropriate background, show the subject as the clear point of interest, be interesting, etc.
You can do a better alteration than that!
The fish are awesome.
The picture of the dog is really nice, way to make the snow actually be white! The blurred action is really good as well because just the wing is blurred which makes it more interesting.
Use less distracting backgrounds and rule of thirds.
Great photos. The panning could be better. Also the blurred action could be seen more. Good, clear rule of thirds shot of Mr. Hiller. The puppy on the top is also really good. The resolution is great.
I like the picture with the fish in it, and the environmental one is a little bit distracting in the backgrounds
I really like the pic of the duck it looks like its having fun in the water. The one with the snow and the girl is kinda blury and its kinda wierd looking.
The fish picture is the best one. The environmental one needs less distractions though.
Picture of dog was really good, good white balance. Panning has weird light shining, makes the picture look weird.
The landscape has some telephone wires in it that shouldn't be in the picture. I like the protrait of the dog.
I dont think the stopped action photo is actually stopped action, more of a blurred action photo. The picture is nice, the subject is interesting and different, but not that right type.
I cant really tell the subject of the picture you said were mountains, maybe it could have been zoomed out, or the picture couldve been taken in a different area? The green color is peaceful though.
The macro shot is good because you had an off center object but the rest of the photo was not just empty space.
The picture of the dog was good because it wasn't blurred and the snow was white.
-the picture of the fish swimming is very good. It shows blurred action and has good exposure.
-The picture of mr hiller is not my favorite because the coloring is not very good and it is distracting.
I like the picture with the fish. its good blurred action. the panning picture could have been a little better. the environmental is a little distracting
Pic #1 - This could quickly and easily be improved by a little cropping to decenter, and adjusting the levels to make the snow white.
Pic #2 - Get in close to the subject, make the subject choice obvious. Great deal of distractions in the shot (move the cart)
Pic #3 - Awesome photo. Shows great frenzied action of the fish. Tells their story. Great work.
Picture #4 - Crop down to make the bird most of the picture, get rid of all the extra space behind and below it. Get close to your subject!
Pic 5 - Crop the lower edge off (where you can see your car? Nice pan.
pic 6 - I like the multiple bands/layers. The depth of the photo is shown through the differing shades of the trees.
Pic 7 - Get much closer to the strap, or crop it down more. Is this a picture of the strap? the ear phones? the camera(?) in the background?
Pic 9 - Cool night shot. Nice color temperature shades from the lights. Tells a story.
